   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Material. As it settles, Tonka Bean and Incense come through and give it real depth. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Benzoin with Madagascar Vanilla, which is where the fragrance really shines. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   A friend passed me a decant of Material (2021) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The base rests on Tonka Bean and Incense — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The opening is built around elemi and Patchouli — bright and immediately recognizable. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   I picked up Material (2021) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The heart is the best part for me: Benzoin and Madagascar Vanilla feel carefully balanced. That first spray gives a lovely elemi/Patchouli impression that dries down smoothly. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

    A couple of wears in, Material has really grown on me. Give it a little time and Benzoin with Madagascar Vanilla comes forward — smooth and well done. That first spray gives a lovely elemi/Patchouli impression that dries down smoothly. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.
