   My first Penhaligon’s experience was this one, Quercus (1996). The heart is the best part for me: Lily-of-the-Valley and Jasmine feel carefully balanced. The first minutes are all about Amalfi Lemon with a hint of Lime — it grabs attention without being pushy. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   A couple of wears in, Quercus has really grown on me. The drydown leans on Oakmoss plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The first minutes are all about Amalfi Lemon with a hint of Lime — it grabs attention without being pushy. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

   I picked up Quercus (1996) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The base rests on Oakmoss and Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The heart is the best part for me: Lily-of-the-Valley and Jasmine feel carefully balanced. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

The composition is well made but not for me.

Right away I get mostly Amalfi Lemon alongside Lime, fresh and very easy to wear. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.
