   A decant of Hwyl sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The base rests on Vetiver and Olibanum — warm, grounded and easy to live with. That first spray gives a lovely Spices/Thyme impression that dries down smoothly. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   A friend passed me a decant of Hwyl (2017) and I wasn’t prepared for it. As it settles, Vetiver and Olibanum come through and give it real depth. The drydown leans on Vetiver plus Olibanum and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   Everyone keeps talking about Hwyl, so I finally gave it a proper test. The base rests on Vetiver and Olibanum — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The heart is the best part for me: Cypress and Woody Notes feel carefully balanced. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

   Picked up a sample of Hwyl after reading the community buzz (2017). The first minutes are all about Spices with a hint of Thyme — it grabs attention without being pushy. The very first sniff is crisp Spices with Thyme peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

The opening is built around Spices and Thyme — bright and immediately recognizable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

    I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Hwyl. That first spray gives a lovely Spices/Thyme impression that dries down smoothly. The drydown leans on Vetiver plus Olibanum and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

    I keep reaching for Hwyl more than I expected to. Give it a little time and Cypress with Woody Notes comes forward — smooth and well done. Right away I get mostly Spices alongside Thyme, fresh and very easy to wear. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.
