   My first Ajmal experience was this one, Evoke Gold For Him (2018). That first spray gives a lovely Neroli/Pepper impression that dries down smoothly. The opening is built around Neroli and Pepper — bright and immediately recognizable. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   I keep reaching for Evoke Gold For Him more than I expected to. The very first sniff is crisp Neroli with Pepper peeking through, very much my kind of start. Right away I get mostly Neroli alongside Pepper, fresh and very easy to wear. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   A decant of Evoke Gold For Him sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The drydown leans on Cedar plus Patchouli and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The very first sniff is crisp Neroli with Pepper peeking through, very much my kind of start. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

Give it a little time and Orris Root with Amber comes forward — smooth and well done. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

   I have owned Evoke Gold For Him for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. That first spray gives a lovely Neroli/Pepper impression that dries down smoothly. Give it a little time and Orris Root with Amber comes forward — smooth and well done. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   A couple of wears in, Evoke Gold For Him has really grown on me. The very first sniff is crisp Neroli with Pepper peeking through, very much my kind of start. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Orris Root with Amber, which is where the fragrance really shines. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I would happily buy a full bottle.
