   For a 2019 release, Overture Man deserves more attention than it gets. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Myrrh with Cinnamon, which is where the fragrance really shines. The base rests on Animal notes and Smoke — warm, grounded and easy to live with. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   A decant of Overture Man sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. Give it a little time and Myrrh with Cinnamon comes forward — smooth and well done. The very first sniff is crisp Cognac with Cumin peeking through, very much my kind of start. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Overture Man. Give it a little time and Myrrh with Cinnamon comes forward — smooth and well done. The drydown leans on Animal notes plus Smoke and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. The composition is well made but not for me.

   A friend passed me a decant of Overture Man (2019) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The drydown leans on Animal notes plus Smoke and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The opening is built around Cognac and Cumin — bright and immediately recognizable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   Amouage knows how to compose, and Overture Man (2019) is proof. The opening is built around Cognac and Cumin — bright and immediately recognizable. Right away I get mostly Cognac alongside Cumin, fresh and very easy to wear. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

That first spray gives a lovely Cognac/Cumin impression that dries down smoothly. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. I would happily buy a full bottle.
