   Everyone keeps talking about Al Rayhan, so I finally gave it a proper test. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Tangerine with Praline, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Tangerine and Praline feel carefully balanced. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   I picked up Al Rayhan (2017) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The very first sniff is crisp Lemon zest with Mango peeking through, very much my kind of start. As it settles, Exotic Fruits and Powdery Notes come through and give it real depth. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

The drydown leans on Exotic Fruits plus Powdery Notes and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

    A friend passed me a decant of Al Rayhan (2017) and I wasn’t prepared for it. That first spray gives a lovely Lemon zest/Mango impression that dries down smoothly. Right away I get mostly Lemon zest alongside Mango, fresh and very easy to wear. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

Give it a little time and Tangerine with Praline comes forward — smooth and well done. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.
