   A friend passed me a decant of Extatic (2014) and I wasn’t prepared for it. Give it a little time and Orchid with Iris comes forward — smooth and well done. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Orchid with Iris, which is where the fragrance really shines. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

   My first Balmain Beauty experience was this one, Extatic (2014). The first minutes are all about Pear with a hint of Osmanthus — it grabs attention without being pushy. Right away I get mostly Pear alongside Osmanthus, fresh and very easy to wear. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   Picked up a sample of Extatic after reading the community buzz (2014). The drydown leans on Cashmere Wood plus Sandalwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The very first sniff is crisp Pear with Osmanthus peeking through, very much my kind of start. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   I picked up Extatic (2014) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. That first spray gives a lovely Pear/Osmanthus impression that dries down smoothly. Give it a little time and Orchid with Iris comes forward — smooth and well done. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

The drydown leans on Cashmere Wood plus Sandalwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I would happily buy a full bottle.
