   Burberry knows how to compose, and The Beat (2008) is proof. That first spray gives a lovely Pink Pepper/Mandarin Orange impression that dries down smoothly. Right away I get mostly Pink Pepper alongside Mandarin Orange, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   Picked up a sample of The Beat after reading the community buzz (2008). The base rests on White Musk and Vetiver — warm, grounded and easy to live with. That first spray gives a lovely Pink Pepper/Mandarin Orange impression that dries down smoothly. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I keep reaching for The Beat more than I expected to. Give it a little time and Tea with Iris comes forward — smooth and well done. Right away I get mostly Pink Pepper alongside Mandarin Orange, fresh and very easy to wear. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   I keep reaching for The Beat more than I expected to. As it settles, White Musk and Vetiver come through and give it real depth. The drydown leans on White Musk plus Vetiver and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

I wanted to like it more than I did.

   A friend passed me a decant of The Beat (2008) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The opening is built around Pink Pepper and Mandarin Orange — bright and immediately recognizable. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Tea with Iris, which is where the fragrance really shines. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.
