   My first Byredo experience was this one, Bal d’Afrique (2009). Give it a little time and Violet with Cyclamen comes forward — smooth and well done. The base rests on Vetiver and Cedar — warm, grounded and easy to live with. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. The composition is well made but not for me.

   I’ve been wearing Bal d’Afrique on and off for a few weeks now (2009). Right away I get mostly Bergamot alongside African marigold, fresh and very easy to wear. As it settles, Vetiver and Cedar come through and give it real depth. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   Picked up a sample of Bal d’Afrique after reading the community buzz (2009). After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Violet with Cyclamen, which is where the fragrance really shines. The first minutes are all about Bergamot with a hint of African marigold — it grabs attention without being pushy. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   Picked up a sample of Bal d’Afrique after reading the community buzz (2009). The very first sniff is crisp Bergamot with African marigold peeking through, very much my kind of start. Right away I get mostly Bergamot alongside African marigold, fresh and very easy to wear. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.
