   I keep reaching for Bal d’Afrique Absolu more than I expected to. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Praline with Musk, which is where the fragrance really shines. The opening is built around Blackcurrant and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   A couple of wears in, Bal d’Afrique Absolu has really grown on me. The first minutes are all about Blackcurrant with a hint of Bergamot — it grabs attention without being pushy. As it settles, Black Amber and Cedarwood come through and give it real depth. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I have owned Bal d’Afrique Absolu for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The drydown leans on Black Amber plus Cedarwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The opening is built around Blackcurrant and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. The composition is well made but not for me.

   A friend passed me a decant of Bal d’Afrique Absolu (2025) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The heart is the best part for me: Praline and Musk feel carefully balanced. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Praline with Musk, which is where the fragrance really shines. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   Everyone keeps talking about Bal d’Afrique Absolu, so I finally gave it a proper test. Right away I get mostly Blackcurrant alongside Bergamot, fresh and very easy to wear. As it settles, Black Amber and Cedarwood come through and give it real depth. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   For a 2025 release, Bal d’Afrique Absolu deserves more attention than it gets. The very first sniff is crisp Blackcurrant with Bergamot peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown leans on Black Amber plus Cedarwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.
