   Calvin Klein knows how to compose, and Obsession (1985) is proof. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Spices with Sandalwood, which is where the fragrance really shines. The base rests on Amber and Incense — warm, grounded and easy to live with. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   I picked up Obsession (1985) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Give it a little time and Spices with Sandalwood comes forward — smooth and well done. The heart is the best part for me: Spices and Sandalwood feel carefully balanced. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

The first minutes are all about Vanilla with a hint of Basil — it grabs attention without being pushy. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

The drydown leans on Amber plus Incense and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I would happily buy a full bottle.
