   Cartier knows how to compose, and Declaration d’Un Soir (2012) is proof. The very first sniff is crisp Black Pepper with Cardamom peeking through, very much my kind of start. As it settles, Sandalwood come through and give it real depth. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   I picked up Declaration d’Un Soir (2012) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The base rests on Sandalwood — warm, grounded and easy to live with. As it settles, Sandalwood come through and give it real depth. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   I picked up Declaration d’Un Soir (2012) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Right away I get mostly Black Pepper alongside Cardamom, fresh and very easy to wear. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Nutmeg, which is where the fragrance really shines. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

   I’ve been wearing Declaration d’Un Soir on and off for a few weeks now (2012). The heart is the best part for me: Rose and Nutmeg feel carefully balanced. Give it a little time and Rose with Nutmeg comes forward — smooth and well done. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   A friend passed me a decant of Declaration d’Un Soir (2012) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The base rests on Sandalwood — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Right away I get mostly Black Pepper alongside Cardamom, fresh and very easy to wear. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   I have owned Declaration d’Un Soir for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The opening is built around Black Pepper and Cardamom — bright and immediately recognizable. That first spray gives a lovely Black Pepper/Cardamom impression that dries down smoothly. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. The composition is well made but not for me.
