   For a 2001 release, No. 1 deserves more attention than it gets. The very first sniff is crisp Nutmeg with Cardamom peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown leans on Sandalwood plus Amber and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   A friend passed me a decant of No. 1 (2001) and I wasn’t prepared for it. Give it a little time and Iris with Ylang-Ylang comes forward — smooth and well done. The first minutes are all about Nutmeg with a hint of Cardamom — it grabs attention without being pushy. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   Picked up a sample of No. 1 after reading the community buzz (2001). The base rests on Sandalwood and Amber — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Give it a little time and Iris with Ylang-Ylang comes forward — smooth and well done. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   A couple of wears in, No. 1 has really grown on me. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Iris with Ylang-Ylang, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Iris and Ylang-Ylang feel carefully balanced. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   Picked up a sample of No. 1 after reading the community buzz (2001). Right away I get mostly Nutmeg alongside Cardamom, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown leans on Sandalwood plus Amber and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.
