   I picked up Royal Mayfair (2015) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The opening is built around Pine Tree and Gin — bright and immediately recognizable. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose, which is where the fragrance really shines. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I have owned Royal Mayfair for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. Right away I get mostly Pine Tree alongside Gin, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown leans on Eucalyptus plus Cedar and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

   Everyone keeps talking about Royal Mayfair, so I finally gave it a proper test. That first spray gives a lovely Pine Tree/Gin impression that dries down smoothly. As it settles, Eucalyptus and Cedar come through and give it real depth. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

The drydown leans on Eucalyptus plus Cedar and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.
