   Diptyque knows how to compose, and Eau Rose (2012) is proof. Give it a little time and Rose with Geranium comes forward — smooth and well done. The drydown leans on Musk plus White Honey and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   I picked up Eau Rose (2012) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Geranium, which is where the fragrance really shines. The first minutes are all about Litchi with a hint of Black Currant — it grabs attention without being pushy. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Eau Rose. The opening is built around Litchi and Black Currant — bright and immediately recognizable. The drydown leans on Musk plus White Honey and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   Everyone keeps talking about Eau Rose, so I finally gave it a proper test. That first spray gives a lovely Litchi/Black Currant impression that dries down smoothly. The very first sniff is crisp Litchi with Black Currant peeking through, very much my kind of start. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   A friend passed me a decant of Eau Rose (2012) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The base rests on Musk and White Honey — warm, grounded and easy to live with. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Geranium, which is where the fragrance really shines. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.
