   A decant of Shaal Nur sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. Right away I get mostly Bergamot alongside Coriander, fresh and very easy to wear. Give it a little time and Rosemary with Tarragon comes forward — smooth and well done. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

The drydown leans on Vetiver plus Incense and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   A friend passed me a decant of Shaal Nur (1997) and I wasn’t prepared for it. As it settles, Vetiver and Incense come through and give it real depth. The drydown leans on Vetiver plus Incense and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I picked up Shaal Nur (1997) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The base rests on Vetiver and Incense — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The heart is the best part for me: Rosemary and Tarragon feel carefully balanced. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   Etro knows how to compose, and Shaal Nur (1997) is proof. The first minutes are all about Bergamot with a hint of Coriander — it grabs attention without being pushy. The base rests on Vetiver and Incense — warm, grounded and easy to live with. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   My first Etro experience was this one, Shaal Nur (1997). The opening is built around Bergamot and Coriander — bright and immediately recognizable. That first spray gives a lovely Bergamot/Coriander impression that dries down smoothly. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.
