   My first Fragonard experience was this one, Étoile (2009). The very first sniff is crisp Bergamot with Red Apple peeking through, very much my kind of start. That first spray gives a lovely Bergamot/Red Apple impression that dries down smoothly. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   A couple of wears in, Étoile has really grown on me. The drydown leans on Virginia Cedar plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The opening is built around Bergamot and Red Apple — bright and immediately recognizable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. The composition is well made but not for me.

   Everyone keeps talking about Étoile, so I finally gave it a proper test. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Jasmine with Gardenia, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Jasmine and Gardenia feel carefully balanced. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

The heart is the best part for me: Jasmine and Gardenia feel carefully balanced. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Étoile. As it settles, Virginia Cedar and Musk come through and give it real depth. The base rests on Virginia Cedar and Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   I keep reaching for Étoile more than I expected to. The first minutes are all about Bergamot with a hint of Red Apple — it grabs attention without being pushy. The drydown leans on Virginia Cedar plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.
