   A friend passed me a decant of Vanille (2015) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The heart is the best part for me: Caramel and Ginger feel carefully balanced. Right away I get mostly Lime alongside Grapefruit, fresh and very easy to wear. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   Franck Boclet knows how to compose, and Vanille (2015) is proof. The drydown leans on Vanilla Absolute plus Cedar and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The first minutes are all about Lime with a hint of Grapefruit — it grabs attention without being pushy. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   I keep reaching for Vanille more than I expected to. The base rests on Vanilla Absolute and Cedar — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The opening is built around Lime and Grapefruit — bright and immediately recognizable. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   I picked up Vanille (2015) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Caramel with Ginger, which is where the fragrance really shines. Right away I get mostly Lime alongside Grapefruit, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.
