   A couple of wears in, Uncut Gem has really grown on me. The first minutes are all about Ginger with a hint of Bergamot — it grabs attention without being pushy. Right away I get mostly Ginger alongside Bergamot, fresh and very easy to wear. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   A decant of Uncut Gem sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Vetiver with Olibanum, which is where the fragrance really shines. The very first sniff is crisp Ginger with Bergamot peeking through, very much my kind of start. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   Frederic Malle knows how to compose, and Uncut Gem (2022) is proof. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Vetiver with Olibanum, which is where the fragrance really shines. Give it a little time and Vetiver with Olibanum comes forward — smooth and well done. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   I picked up Uncut Gem (2022) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The opening is built around Ginger and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. The first minutes are all about Ginger with a hint of Bergamot — it grabs attention without being pushy. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.
