   For a 2012 release, Armani Code Ultimate deserves more attention than it gets. Right away I get mostly Star Anise alongside Grapefruit, fresh and very easy to wear. The heart is the best part for me: Heliotrope and Olive Blossom feel carefully balanced. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   A friend passed me a decant of Armani Code Ultimate (2012) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The first minutes are all about Star Anise with a hint of Grapefruit — it grabs attention without being pushy. The base rests on Vanilla and Tonka Bean — warm, grounded and easy to live with. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

As it settles, Vanilla and Tonka Bean come through and give it real depth. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. The composition is well made but not for me.

   I have owned Armani Code Ultimate for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The drydown leans on Vanilla plus Tonka Bean and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The heart is the best part for me: Heliotrope and Olive Blossom feel carefully balanced. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   Everyone keeps talking about Armani Code Ultimate, so I finally gave it a proper test. The very first sniff is crisp Star Anise with Grapefruit peeking through, very much my kind of start. That first spray gives a lovely Star Anise/Grapefruit impression that dries down smoothly. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I would happily buy a full bottle.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Heliotrope with Olive Blossom, which is where the fragrance really shines. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.
