   A decant of Cuir Amethyste sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The first minutes are all about Coriander with a hint of Rose — it grabs attention without being pushy. Give it a little time and Violet with Birch comes forward — smooth and well done. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   I have owned Cuir Amethyste for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. As it settles, Benzoin and Labdanum come through and give it real depth. Right away I get mostly Coriander alongside Rose, fresh and very easy to wear. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   For a 2005 release, Cuir Amethyste deserves more attention than it gets. The base rests on Benzoin and Labdanum — warm, grounded and easy to live with. As it settles, Benzoin and Labdanum come through and give it real depth. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   A decant of Cuir Amethyste sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. That first spray gives a lovely Coriander/Rose impression that dries down smoothly. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Violet with Birch, which is where the fragrance really shines. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. I wanted to like it more than I did.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Violet with Birch, which is where the fragrance really shines. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

The heart is the best part for me: Violet and Birch feel carefully balanced. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.
