   A decant of Nuit Etoilee sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The heart is the best part for me: Pine Tree and Fir feel carefully balanced. Give it a little time and Pine Tree with Fir comes forward — smooth and well done. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   Goutal knows how to compose, and Nuit Etoilee (2012) is proof. Right away I get mostly Mint alongside Citron, fresh and very easy to wear. Give it a little time and Pine Tree with Fir comes forward — smooth and well done. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   My first Goutal experience was this one, Nuit Etoilee (2012). The drydown leans on Immortelle plus Angelica and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The base rests on Immortelle and Angelica — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

   Everyone keeps talking about Nuit Etoilee, so I finally gave it a proper test. The first minutes are all about Mint with a hint of Citron — it grabs attention without being pushy. The base rests on Immortelle and Angelica — warm, grounded and easy to live with. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   A couple of wears in, Nuit Etoilee has really grown on me. That first spray gives a lovely Mint/Citron impression that dries down smoothly. The opening is built around Mint and Citron — bright and immediately recognizable. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Pine Tree with Fir, which is where the fragrance really shines. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   A friend passed me a decant of Nuit Etoilee (2012) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The very first sniff is crisp Mint with Citron peeking through, very much my kind of start. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Pine Tree with Fir, which is where the fragrance really shines. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.
