   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Angélique Noire. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Jasmine with Caraway, which is where the fragrance really shines. The opening is built around Angelica and Pear — bright and immediately recognizable. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   Guerlain knows how to compose, and Angélique Noire (2005) is proof. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Jasmine with Caraway, which is where the fragrance really shines. That first spray gives a lovely Angelica/Pear impression that dries down smoothly. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   I picked up Angélique Noire (2005) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. That first spray gives a lovely Angelica/Pear impression that dries down smoothly. Give it a little time and Jasmine with Caraway comes forward — smooth and well done. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   For a 2005 release, Angélique Noire deserves more attention than it gets. The drydown leans on Angelica plus Vanilla and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. As it settles, Angelica and Vanilla come through and give it real depth. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Jasmine with Caraway, which is where the fragrance really shines. The base rests on Angelica and Vanilla — warm, grounded and easy to live with. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. The composition is well made but not for me.
