   A friend passed me a decant of Rose Barbare (2005) and I wasn’t prepared for it. Right away I get mostly Rose alongside Aldehydes, fresh and very easy to wear. The base rests on Honey and Patchouli — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   A friend passed me a decant of Rose Barbare (2005) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The base rests on Honey and Patchouli — warm, grounded and easy to live with. As it settles, Honey and Patchouli come through and give it real depth. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   I keep reaching for Rose Barbare more than I expected to. The first minutes are all about Rose with a hint of Aldehydes — it grabs attention without being pushy. Right away I get mostly Rose alongside Aldehydes, fresh and very easy to wear. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

The heart is the best part for me: Rose and Fenugreek feel carefully balanced. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

    Guerlain knows how to compose, and Rose Barbare (2005) is proof. The drydown leans on Honey plus Patchouli and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Fenugreek, which is where the fragrance really shines. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.
