   A friend passed me a decant of J’ai Osé (1978) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The opening is built around Aldehydes and Coriander — bright and immediately recognizable. The base rests on Oakmoss and Benzoin — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   I’ve been wearing J’ai Osé on and off for a few weeks now (1978). That first spray gives a lovely Aldehydes/Coriander impression that dries down smoothly. The drydown leans on Oakmoss plus Benzoin and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about J’ai Osé. As it settles, Oakmoss and Benzoin come through and give it real depth. The heart is the best part for me: Sandalwood and Patchouli feel carefully balanced. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. I wanted to like it more than I did.

As it settles, Oakmoss and Benzoin come through and give it real depth. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

    My first Guy Laroche experience was this one, J’ai Osé (1978). As it settles, Oakmoss and Benzoin come through and give it real depth. The very first sniff is crisp Aldehydes with Coriander peeking through, very much my kind of start. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.
