   A friend passed me a decant of Deep Red (2001) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The very first sniff is crisp Blood Orange with Black Currant peeking through, very much my kind of start. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Ginger with Ginger flower, which is where the fragrance really shines. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

   Hugo Boss knows how to compose, and Deep Red (2001) is proof. The very first sniff is crisp Blood Orange with Black Currant peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown leans on Vanilla plus Sandalwood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   A couple of wears in, Deep Red has really grown on me. The heart is the best part for me: Ginger and Ginger flower feel carefully balanced. The first minutes are all about Blood Orange with a hint of Black Currant — it grabs attention without being pushy. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

The heart is the best part for me: Ginger and Ginger flower feel carefully balanced. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

Right away I get mostly Blood Orange alongside Black Currant, fresh and very easy to wear. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.
