   I keep reaching for Essential more than I expected to. The heart is the best part for me: Rose and Pepper feel carefully balanced. Give it a little time and Rose with Pepper comes forward — smooth and well done. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   For a 2005 release, Essential deserves more attention than it gets. That first spray gives a lovely Bergamot/Cassia impression that dries down smoothly. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Rose with Pepper, which is where the fragrance really shines. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   For a 2005 release, Essential deserves more attention than it gets. The base rests on Sandalwood and Patchouli — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The very first sniff is crisp Bergamot with Cassia peeking through, very much my kind of start. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   My first Lacoste Fragrances experience was this one, Essential (2005). The opening is built around Bergamot and Cassia — bright and immediately recognizable. Right away I get mostly Bergamot alongside Cassia, fresh and very easy to wear. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

The heart is the best part for me: Rose and Pepper feel carefully balanced. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

Give it a little time and Rose with Pepper comes forward — smooth and well done. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I wanted to like it more than I did.
