   L’Occitane en Provence knows how to compose, and Néroli & Orchidée (2014) is proof. The first minutes are all about Mandarin Orange with a hint of Orange — it grabs attention without being pushy. The very first sniff is crisp Mandarin Orange with Orange peeking through, very much my kind of start. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. The composition is well made but not for me.

   For a 2014 release, Néroli & Orchidée deserves more attention than it gets. The drydown leans on Orchid plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. As it settles, Orchid and Musk come through and give it real depth. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. The composition is well made but not for me.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Néroli & Orchidée. The first minutes are all about Mandarin Orange with a hint of Orange — it grabs attention without being pushy. The base rests on Orchid and Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   I keep reaching for Néroli & Orchidée more than I expected to. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Neroli with Peach, which is where the fragrance really shines. That first spray gives a lovely Mandarin Orange/Orange impression that dries down smoothly. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

The very first sniff is crisp Mandarin Orange with Orange peeking through, very much my kind of start. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.
