   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Emblem. The base rests on Tonka Bean and Woody Notes — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The first minutes are all about Clary Sage with a hint of Grapefruit — it grabs attention without being pushy. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   A friend passed me a decant of Emblem (2014) and I wasn’t prepared for it. Right away I get mostly Clary Sage alongside Grapefruit, fresh and very easy to wear. The very first sniff is crisp Clary Sage with Grapefruit peeking through, very much my kind of start. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   Everyone keeps talking about Emblem, so I finally gave it a proper test. As it settles, Tonka Bean and Woody Notes come through and give it real depth. The very first sniff is crisp Clary Sage with Grapefruit peeking through, very much my kind of start. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. I would happily buy a full bottle.

   A decant of Emblem sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Violet Leaf with Cinnamon, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Violet Leaf and Cinnamon feel carefully balanced. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.
