   I picked up Kaiak (1996) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into African Orange Flower with Geranium, which is where the fragrance really shines. The base rests on oak moss and Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Kaiak. The opening is built around Bergamot and Amalfi Lemon — bright and immediately recognizable. The drydown leans on oak moss plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   For a 1996 release, Kaiak deserves more attention than it gets. The first minutes are all about Bergamot with a hint of Amalfi Lemon — it grabs attention without being pushy. Give it a little time and African Orange Flower with Geranium comes forward — smooth and well done. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into African Orange Flower with Geranium, which is where the fragrance really shines. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

Right away I get mostly Bergamot alongside Amalfi Lemon, fresh and very easy to wear. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

    I have owned Kaiak for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The heart is the best part for me: African Orange Flower and Geranium feel carefully balanced. The very first sniff is crisp Bergamot with Amalfi Lemon peeking through, very much my kind of start. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.
