   I picked up Darley (2009) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The base rests on Tonka Bean and Sandalwood — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The very first sniff is crisp Mint with Bergamot peeking through, very much my kind of start. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Darley. Right away I get mostly Mint alongside Bergamot, fresh and very easy to wear. The opening is built around Mint and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   For a 2009 release, Darley deserves more attention than it gets. As it settles, Tonka Bean and Sandalwood come through and give it real depth. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Lavender with Cinnamon, which is where the fragrance really shines. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   I have owned Darley for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The opening is built around Mint and Bergamot — bright and immediately recognizable. Give it a little time and Lavender with Cinnamon comes forward — smooth and well done. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.
