   Penhaligon’s knows how to compose, and Bluebell (1978) is proof. The base rests on Galbanum and Cloves — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The heart is the best part for me: Hyacinth and Lily-of-the-Valley feel carefully balanced. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I have owned Bluebell for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The opening is built around Citruses — bright and immediately recognizable. Right away I get mostly Citruses, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   My first Penhaligon’s experience was this one, Bluebell (1978). That first spray gives a lovely Citruses impression that dries down smoothly. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Hyacinth with Lily-of-the-Valley, which is where the fragrance really shines. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   Picked up a sample of Bluebell after reading the community buzz (1978). The opening is built around Citruses — bright and immediately recognizable. As it settles, Galbanum and Cloves come through and give it real depth. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Hyacinth with Lily-of-the-Valley, which is where the fragrance really shines. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   I’ve been wearing Bluebell on and off for a few weeks now (1978). The drydown leans on Galbanum plus Cloves and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Hyacinth with Lily-of-the-Valley, which is where the fragrance really shines. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   A friend passed me a decant of Bluebell (1978) and I wasn’t prepared for it. As it settles, Galbanum and Cloves come through and give it real depth. The very first sniff is crisp Citruses, very much my kind of start. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

Give it a little time and Hyacinth with Lily-of-the-Valley comes forward — smooth and well done. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.
