   I picked up Ellenisia (2005) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Give it a little time and Gardenia with Tuberose comes forward — smooth and well done. Right away I get mostly Violet Leaf alongside Mandarin Orange, fresh and very easy to wear. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   A couple of wears in, Ellenisia has really grown on me. The first minutes are all about Violet Leaf with a hint of Mandarin Orange — it grabs attention without being pushy. That first spray gives a lovely Violet Leaf/Mandarin Orange impression that dries down smoothly. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   I keep reaching for Ellenisia more than I expected to. The very first sniff is crisp Violet Leaf with Mandarin Orange peeking through, very much my kind of start. That first spray gives a lovely Violet Leaf/Mandarin Orange impression that dries down smoothly. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

The heart is the best part for me: Gardenia and Tuberose feel carefully balanced. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I would happily buy a full bottle.

As it settles, Plum and Vanilla come through and give it real depth. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   My first Penhaligon’s experience was this one, Ellenisia (2005). After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Gardenia with Tuberose, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Gardenia and Tuberose feel carefully balanced. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.
