   Penhaligon’s knows how to compose, and Lavandula (2002) is proof. The base rests on Musk and Vanilla — warm, grounded and easy to live with. That first spray gives a lovely Basil/Pepper impression that dries down smoothly. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   Everyone keeps talking about Lavandula, so I finally gave it a proper test. That first spray gives a lovely Basil/Pepper impression that dries down smoothly. The first minutes are all about Basil with a hint of Pepper — it grabs attention without being pushy. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

The opening is built around Basil and Pepper — bright and immediately recognizable. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   Picked up a sample of Lavandula after reading the community buzz (2002). The very first sniff is crisp Basil with Pepper peeking through, very much my kind of start. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Lavender with Clary Sage, which is where the fragrance really shines. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   I picked up Lavandula (2002) mostly on a whim, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Give it a little time and Lavender with Clary Sage comes forward — smooth and well done. The first minutes are all about Basil with a hint of Pepper — it grabs attention without being pushy. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.
