   A friend passed me a decant of Oud Imperial (2012) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The drydown leans on Blackwood plus Labdanum and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The first minutes are all about Caraway with a hint of Jasmine — it grabs attention without being pushy. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. The composition is well made but not for me.

   For a 2012 release, Oud Imperial deserves more attention than it gets. The base rests on Blackwood and Labdanum — warm, grounded and easy to live with. That first spray gives a lovely Caraway/Jasmine impression that dries down smoothly. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   My first Perris Monte Carlo experience was this one, Oud Imperial (2012). That first spray gives a lovely Caraway/Jasmine impression that dries down smoothly. The opening is built around Caraway and Jasmine — bright and immediately recognizable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.
