   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Ultrared Man. Right away I get mostly Blood Orange, fresh and very easy to wear. The first minutes are all about Blood Orange — it grabs attention without being pushy. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

   A friend passed me a decant of Ultrared Man (2008) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The first minutes are all about Blood Orange — it grabs attention without being pushy. The opening is built around Blood Orange — bright and immediately recognizable. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. The composition is well made but not for me.

   My first Rabanne experience was this one, Ultrared Man (2008). The very first sniff is crisp Blood Orange, very much my kind of start. Right away I get mostly Blood Orange, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   Rabanne knows how to compose, and Ultrared Man (2008) is proof. As it settles, Vanilla and Patchouli come through and give it real depth. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

    For a 2008 release, Ultrared Man deserves more attention than it gets. Give it a little time and Praline with Tonka Bean comes forward — smooth and well done. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Praline with Tonka Bean, which is where the fragrance really shines. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.
