   I keep reaching for Byzance more than I expected to. The heart is the best part for me: Tuberose and Ylang-Ylang feel carefully balanced. The base rests on Sandalwood and Heliotrope — warm, grounded and easy to live with. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   I keep reaching for Byzance more than I expected to. The base rests on Sandalwood and Heliotrope — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The very first sniff is crisp Aldehydes with Spices peeking through, very much my kind of start. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   Everyone keeps talking about Byzance, so I finally gave it a proper test. The opening is built around Aldehydes and Spices — bright and immediately recognizable. The drydown leans on Sandalwood plus Heliotrope and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   A friend passed me a decant of Byzance (1987) and I wasn’t prepared for it. As it settles, Sandalwood and Heliotrope come through and give it real depth. The first minutes are all about Aldehydes with a hint of Spices — it grabs attention without being pushy. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   I have owned Byzance for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The first minutes are all about Aldehydes with a hint of Spices — it grabs attention without being pushy. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Tuberose with Ylang-Ylang, which is where the fragrance really shines. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Byzance. The base rests on Sandalwood and Heliotrope — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Give it a little time and Tuberose with Ylang-Ylang comes forward — smooth and well done. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.
