   My first Sean John experience was this one, Unforgivable (2006). The very first sniff is crisp Tangerine with Green Mandarin peeking through, very much my kind of start. The base rests on Rum and Cashmere Wood — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Lavender with Clary Sage, which is where the fragrance really shines. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   Sean John knows how to compose, and Unforgivable (2006) is proof. That first spray gives a lovely Tangerine/Green Mandarin impression that dries down smoothly. The opening is built around Tangerine and Green Mandarin — bright and immediately recognizable. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. I wanted to like it more than I did.

   A friend passed me a decant of Unforgivable (2006) and I wasn’t prepared for it. Give it a little time and Lavender with Clary Sage comes forward — smooth and well done. The base rests on Rum and Cashmere Wood — warm, grounded and easy to live with. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

Right away I get mostly Tangerine alongside Green Mandarin, fresh and very easy to wear. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. The composition is well made but not for me.

   For a 2006 release, Unforgivable deserves more attention than it gets. The heart is the best part for me: Lavender and Clary Sage feel carefully balanced. As it settles, Rum and Cashmere Wood come through and give it real depth. It is not the loudest scent I own, but the balance suits it well. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

I would happily buy a full bottle.

    For a 2006 release, Unforgivable deserves more attention than it gets. As it settles, Rum and Cashmere Wood come through and give it real depth. The drydown leans on Rum plus Cashmere Wood and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.
