   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Noir Anthracite. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Spices with Galbanum, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Spices and Galbanum feel carefully balanced. It lasts through a full workday on me, which is exactly what I want. The composition is well made but not for me.

   Tom Ford knows how to compose, and Noir Anthracite (2017) is proof. Right away I get mostly Sichuan Pepper alongside Ginger, fresh and very easy to wear. The drydown leans on Ebony plus Cedar and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Noir Anthracite. The first minutes are all about Sichuan Pepper with a hint of Ginger — it grabs attention without being pushy. That first spray gives a lovely Sichuan Pepper/Ginger impression that dries down smoothly. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   I have owned Noir Anthracite for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The base rests on Ebony and Cedar — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The opening is built around Sichuan Pepper and Ginger — bright and immediately recognizable. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

The opening is built around Sichuan Pepper and Ginger — bright and immediately recognizable. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I wanted to like it more than I did.

Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

As it settles, Ebony and Cedar come through and give it real depth. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.
