   I keep reaching for Van Cleef more than I expected to. The drydown leans on Tonka Bean plus Vanilla and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The opening is built around Marigold and Galbanum — bright and immediately recognizable. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   For a 1993 release, Van Cleef deserves more attention than it gets. The base rests on Tonka Bean and Vanilla — warm, grounded and easy to live with. As it settles, Tonka Bean and Vanilla come through and give it real depth. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I’ve been wearing Van Cleef on and off for a few weeks now (1993). Give it a little time and Geranium with Orange Blossom comes forward — smooth and well done. The base rests on Tonka Bean and Vanilla — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Performance is consistent: comfortable sillage and several hours of wear on my skin. I would happily buy a full bottle.

As it settles, Tonka Bean and Vanilla come through and give it real depth. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

Right away I get mostly Marigold alongside Galbanum, fresh and very easy to wear. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

The composition is well made but not for me.

   Van Cleef & Arpels knows how to compose, and Van Cleef (1993) is proof. The first minutes are all about Marigold with a hint of Galbanum — it grabs attention without being pushy. The opening is built around Marigold and Galbanum — bright and immediately recognizable. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I wanted to like it more than I did.

The very first sniff is crisp Marigold with Galbanum peeking through, very much my kind of start. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.
