   For a 2019 release, Opera deserves more attention than it gets. The base rests on Patchouli and Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The drydown leans on Patchouli plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

   Everyone keeps talking about Opera, so I finally gave it a proper test. The first minutes are all about Fruits with a hint of Turkish Rose — it grabs attention without being pushy. The very first sniff is crisp Fruits with Turkish Rose peeking through, very much my kind of start. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

   A friend passed me a decant of Opera (2019) and I wasn’t prepared for it. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Ylang-Ylang with Nutmeg, which is where the fragrance really shines. The opening is built around Fruits and Turkish Rose — bright and immediately recognizable. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

Give it a little time and Ylang-Ylang with Nutmeg comes forward — smooth and well done. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

The heart is the best part for me: Ylang-Ylang and Nutmeg feel carefully balanced. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

The heart is the best part for me: Ylang-Ylang and Nutmeg feel carefully balanced. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.
