   I have owned Squid for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. Give it a little time and Ink with Sea Salt comes forward — smooth and well done. As it settles, Ambergris and Benzoin come through and give it real depth. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. Pleasant, though I would not call it essential.

   A couple of wears in, Squid has really grown on me. The drydown leans on Ambergris plus Benzoin and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The very first sniff is crisp Incense with Amyl Salicylate peeking through, very much my kind of start. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. The composition is well made but not for me.

   A friend passed me a decant of Squid (2019) and I wasn’t prepared for it. The very first sniff is crisp Incense with Amyl Salicylate peeking through, very much my kind of start. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Ink with Sea Salt, which is where the fragrance really shines. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   I’ve been wearing Squid on and off for a few weeks now (2019). The base rests on Ambergris and Benzoin — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The very first sniff is crisp Incense with Amyl Salicylate peeking through, very much my kind of start. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   For a 2019 release, Squid deserves more attention than it gets. The opening is built around Incense and Amyl Salicylate — bright and immediately recognizable. The heart is the best part for me: Ink and Sea Salt feel carefully balanced. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

Give it a little time and Ink with Sea Salt comes forward — smooth and well done. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.
