   Everyone keeps talking about Invictus Intense, so I finally gave it a proper test. The drydown leans on Amber plus Ambergris and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. That first spray gives a lovely Orange Blossom/Black Pepper impression that dries down smoothly. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

   A decant of Invictus Intense sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The very first sniff is crisp Orange Blossom with Black Pepper peeking through, very much my kind of start. The opening is built around Orange Blossom and Black Pepper — bright and immediately recognizable. Two sprays are enough — it carries well without shouting. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   I keep reaching for Invictus Intense more than I expected to. Right away I get mostly Orange Blossom alongside Black Pepper, fresh and very easy to wear. The base rests on Amber and Ambergris — warm, grounded and easy to live with. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   Rabanne knows how to compose, and Invictus Intense (2016) is proof. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Whiskey with Laurels, which is where the fragrance really shines. That first spray gives a lovely Orange Blossom/Black Pepper impression that dries down smoothly. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   My first Rabanne experience was this one, Invictus Intense (2016). The base rests on Amber and Ambergris — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The first minutes are all about Orange Blossom with a hint of Black Pepper — it grabs attention without being pushy. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.
