   My first Shakira experience was this one, Elixir (2012). The drydown leans on Amber plus Styrax and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. That first spray gives a lovely Black Pepper/Orange Blossom impression that dries down smoothly. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

   A decant of Elixir sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The very first sniff is crisp Black Pepper with Orange Blossom peeking through, very much my kind of start. Give it a little time and Peach with Freesia comes forward — smooth and well done. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. I reach for it often and always enjoy the wear.

The heart is the best part for me: Peach and Freesia feel carefully balanced. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I wanted to like it more than I did.

The first minutes are all about Black Pepper with a hint of Orange Blossom — it grabs attention without being pushy. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.
