   My first Alfred Sung experience was this one, Shi (2000). The base rests on Birch Leaf and Musk — warm, grounded and easy to live with. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Orange Blossom with Frangipani, which is where the fragrance really shines. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

   A decant of Shi sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. Right away I get mostly Water Lily alongside Rice Leaf, fresh and very easy to wear. The opening is built around Water Lily and Rice Leaf — bright and immediately recognizable. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   Everyone keeps talking about Shi, so I finally gave it a proper test. The very first sniff is crisp Water Lily with Rice Leaf peeking through, very much my kind of start. As it settles, Birch Leaf and Musk come through and give it real depth. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   Picked up a sample of Shi after reading the community buzz (2000). The drydown leans on Birch Leaf plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The opening is built around Water Lily and Rice Leaf — bright and immediately recognizable. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. Sadly this one does not work on my skin.

The drydown leans on Birch Leaf plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

Right away I get mostly Water Lily alongside Rice Leaf, fresh and very easy to wear. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.
