   A friend passed me a decant of Library Collection – Opus IX (2015) and I wasn’t prepared for it. As it settles, Civet and Ambergris come through and give it real depth. The opening is built around Jasmine and Camelia — bright and immediately recognizable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. The composition is well made but not for me.

   My first Amouage experience was this one, Library Collection – Opus IX (2015). The first minutes are all about Jasmine with a hint of Camelia — it grabs attention without being pushy. Right away I get mostly Jasmine alongside Camelia, fresh and very easy to wear. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I can see this getting a lot of wear in my collection.

   A couple of wears in, Library Collection – Opus IX has really grown on me. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Beeswax with Leather, which is where the fragrance really shines. As it settles, Civet and Ambergris come through and give it real depth. The trail is there if someone steps close, not across the room. Full-bottle worthy without a doubt.

   For a 2015 release, Library Collection – Opus IX deserves more attention than it gets. The first minutes are all about Jasmine with a hint of Camelia — it grabs attention without being pushy. The drydown leans on Civet plus Ambergris and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. Projection stays close for the first hour, then becomes a soft, pleasant aura. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   A couple of wears in, Library Collection – Opus IX has really grown on me. Give it a little time and Beeswax with Leather comes forward — smooth and well done. The heart is the best part for me: Beeswax and Leather feel carefully balanced. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.
