   I needed a full wearing before I made my mind up about Always. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Lily with Tulip, which is where the fragrance really shines. Right away I get mostly Kiwi alongside Jasmine, fresh and very easy to wear. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

The heart is the best part for me: Lily and Tulip feel carefully balanced. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   For a 2005 release, Always deserves more attention than it gets. The opening is built around Kiwi and Jasmine — bright and immediately recognizable. Right away I get mostly Kiwi alongside Jasmine, fresh and very easy to wear. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. I wanted to like it more than I did.

The drydown leans on Bamboo plus Musk and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

Give it a little time and Lily with Tulip comes forward — smooth and well done. Three sprays last me most of the day without ever becoming cloying. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.
