   I have owned Declaration for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The drydown leans on Tahitian Vetiver plus Tea and that is exactly where it feels most comfortable. The very first sniff is crisp Bitter Orange with Caraway peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. Easily one of my favourite finds this season.

   Cartier knows how to compose, and Declaration (1998) is proof. The first minutes are all about Bitter Orange with a hint of Caraway — it grabs attention without being pushy. That first spray gives a lovely Bitter Orange/Caraway impression that dries down smoothly. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. I wanted to like it more than I did.

This has earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

   Everyone keeps talking about Declaration, so I finally gave it a proper test. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Guatemalan Cardamom with Pepper, which is where the fragrance really shines. Give it a little time and Guatemalan Cardamom with Pepper comes forward — smooth and well done. In cooler weather it sits closer to the skin, which I actually prefer here. A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

   My first Cartier experience was this one, Declaration (1998). The heart is the best part for me: Guatemalan Cardamom and Pepper feel carefully balanced. The opening is built around Bitter Orange and Caraway — bright and immediately recognizable. I get about four to six hours before it turns into a skin scent. This one gets my highest praise — beautiful from start to finish.

I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.
