   Perry Ellis knows how to compose, and Black Vanilla Absolute (2015) is proof. The very first sniff is crisp Vanilla Absolute with Rum peeking through, very much my kind of start. After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Agarwood (Oud), which is where the fragrance really shines. Longevity is moderate and the trail is noticeable without being loud. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I’ve been wearing Black Vanilla Absolute on and off for a few weeks now (2015). The first minutes are all about Vanilla Absolute with a hint of Rum — it grabs attention without being pushy. The very first sniff is crisp Vanilla Absolute with Rum peeking through, very much my kind of start. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. A very likeable composition that is easy to appreciate.

   I have owned Black Vanilla Absolute for a while now and my opinion has only gotten stronger. The heart is the best part for me: Agarwood (Oud) feel carefully balanced. Give it a little time and Agarwood (Oud) comes forward — smooth and well done. It wears beautifully in the office; I can still catch it on my scarf at the end of the day. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   A decant of Black Vanilla Absolute sat in my box for weeks before I finally wore it. The base rests on White Tobacco and Black Amber — warm, grounded and easy to live with. Right away I get mostly Vanilla Absolute alongside Rum, fresh and very easy to wear. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.
