   My first Serge Lutens experience was this one, Chypre rouge (2006). After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Honey with Beeswax, which is where the fragrance really shines. The base rests on Oakmoss and Amber — warm, grounded and easy to live with. The drydown lingers pleasantly, and I do not need to reapply at lunch. I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.

   I keep reaching for Chypre rouge more than I expected to. The very first sniff is crisp Caraway with Pine Tree Needles peeking through, very much my kind of start. The opening is built around Caraway and Pine Tree Needles — bright and immediately recognizable. It performs better in warmer weather — in the heat it opens up nicely. I can see its quality, but it simply is not my style.

The base rests on Oakmoss and Amber — warm, grounded and easy to live with. After a few hours it becomes a soft skin scent with a lovely trail. It is fine, but it does not stand out in my collection.

   My first Serge Lutens experience was this one, Chypre rouge (2006). After about twenty minutes the heart settles into Honey with Beeswax, which is where the fragrance really shines. The heart is the best part for me: Honey and Beeswax feel carefully balanced. On my skin the performance is reliable, not a beast but far from weak. Worth sampling before committing to a bottle.

The first minutes are all about Caraway with a hint of Pine Tree Needles — it grabs attention without being pushy. It projects politely for a couple of hours, then stays close and cosy. Well done — recommended if the notes appeal to you.

A solid addition for anyone who enjoys this style.

I enjoy it when I wear it, yet I rarely think of reaching for it.
